US Youth Ambassadors

TechGirls brings 10 American young women (ages 15-17) to join 52 girls from 11 countries in Central Asia and the Middle East and North African (MENA) for an exciting and unparalleled 12 days (July 13-24, 2019 )of quality tech training and international friendship on the campus of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg VA. Participants will collaborate on tech projects by day and participate in stimulating cross-cultural dialogues and fun times at night!   U.S. Department of State

TechGirls is a US Department of State initiative that brings 52 young women (ages 15-17) from Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestinian Territories, Tajikistan, Tunisia and Uzbekistan to the US for a 3-week international exchange program designed to empower young girls from the Middle East and North Africa to pursue careers in science and technology.  A high light of their stay is meeting the US Youth Ambassadors as you live and learn together  at Virginia Tech.  girls and technology

For U.S. Youth Ambassadors this is your chance to collaborate with female STEM leaders from across the globe and gain important tech skills that will inspire you to pursue your dreams. 

2019 Program Dates and Prices

  • Saturday July 13: Arrival and orientation at Virginia Tech (US Girls and staff)
  • Sunday July 14:  Arrival of Central Asian and  MENA TechGirls
  • July 15-24: Tech classes and lab visits
  • July 24:  Departure

Full scholarship includes tuition for camp, housing and meals, staff supervision and ground transport for sightseeing.  Participants are responsible for transportation to and from Virginia Tech.

Legacy International Established in 1979, Legacy International is a non-profit educational organization. Legacy International has consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council. We provide a safe and secure setting with high quality instruction and personalized attention. We have trained over 4,000 teens in more than 102 countries. Since 2012, Legacy has administered the TechGirls program.

Housing and supervision at Virginia Tech:  Legacy International has reserved double occupancy rooms for 52 girls and 7 staff at Virginia Tech, located in a beautiful Blacksburg, VA. Participants will be supervised and supported at all times, whether in the computer lab, dormitories, campus, or sightseeing.

2019 Course:  Participants will be learning programming in Python and Cybersecurity 101.

Other summer camp experiences in hands-on workshops are available for Communications, Arts for Social Justice, and ESL for international students at Legacy’s Global Youth Village summer courses. Become a Global Leader by developing your leadership skills for your dynamic future.
