On-Demand Youth Leadership Program: UGANDA - STEM
The On-Demand Youth Leadership Program (ODYLP): Uganda - STEM is an initiative of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA). It brings together a group of approximately 14-16 youth participants (ages 15-18) and 2 adult mentors (ages 25 and older) from Uganda for a three-week, U.S.-based exchange focused on empowering young leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
This is a unique opportunity for high school students & adult educators!
ODYLP provides opportunities to:

- Design and lead impactful projects in your community
- Connect and collaborate with fellow Ugandans and peers in the United States

The program is 20 days in length, with 15 days in a host city such as Denver, Colorado, and 5 days in Washington DC.
THIS PROGRAM WILL BE HELD IN DECEMBER 2025.

Program Details
Part 1: IN-PERSON EXCHANGE
Days 1-2: Arrive in the United States with a program orientation in the host community.
Days 3-15: Explore the host community and meet with organizations that promote youth leadership, address community issues, and focus on girls’ leadership in STEM. Learn about a variety of STEM skills and topics and explore STEM career pathways. Additionally, you will be a guest of a U.S. host family to immerse yourself in American culture and enjoy their hospitality.
Days 15-20: Travel to Washington D.C., the capital of the United States. Visit the U.S Department of State and engage in cultural and recreational activities.
Part 2: COMMUNITY-BASED PROJECTS
After your U.S. experience, you’ll have the opportunity to share your journey and apply your new cross-cultural, STEM, and leadership skills through a community-based project. This could involve educating peers on STEM skills or organizing a local volunteer initiative in your community.

APPLICATION DETAILS
14-16 students and 2 adult mentors from Uganda will be competitively selected to participate.
Is there a cost? There is NO application fee. The United States Government will pay for all travel to and from the United States, and all program-related costs for selected participants.
Applications will be accepted from April 22 until May 16, 2025 at noon Eastern Daylight Time. Semifinalists will be selected for interviews and final notifications made in July 2025.
