Saying Goodbye to a Good Friend

On Friday, May 18, 2018 we said goodbye to a long-time friend of Legacy International and the Global Youth Village: Linda Lewis Ingram, who passed away in her home surrounded by friends.  From the earliest years of GYV through 2010, Linda directed the GYV Food Service, managed the kitchen staff, and produced thousands of wonderful, healthy, delicious meals for the GYV family.   Her keen sense of organization, high standards, creative recipes, and loving heart made the kitchen a welcoming place for both participants and staff.   Some of her favorite times in the kitchen were working with GYV participants to plan and produce those famous “cultural focus meals” when participants brought tastes from their homeland to the GYV dinner table (with help from Linda and the kitchen staff).

Another great love of Linda’s was all things related to children and learning. She served as the Principal of the World Community Education Center, a small private K-12 school near the GYV campus until 2012. She also taught every level from pre-school through Grade 12 over the years, in a full range of subjects including science, English, social studies, and mathematics. In 2002 she was awarded the prestigious High School Teacher of the Year award from Randolph College (formerly Randolph Macon Woman’s College).

We will all miss Linda, and hope that those of you whose lives she touched, will remember her fondly.

Thank you.
